Combining Artistry and Technology Since 1967
Don Mills began playing guitar in 1962; through a tube amplifier. He built his first tube amplifier in 1967, and the rest is history.
Our Story
Don Mills is the owner and builder at Golden Phi Amplification. He built his first amp in 1967, and has been honing his craft ever since. When he isn’t designing and building amps, he can be found playing around Seattle with his band, Durable Goods. He enjoys playing through his Gold Nugget, a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe style amplifier. It goes to 12.

About Golden Phi
The Golden Phi logo, represented by the Greek letter “Phi”, is also known as the golden ratio: 1.0: 0.6: 1.6. This ratio informs everything from speaker cabinet design to biasing. It is the gold standard for design.
The Greek letter Phi can also be seen as the letter O superimposed over the letter I, representing our new location on Orcas Island and our new brand of Orcas Island Amps. The Phi is found everywhere in nature.
